Doing work with lasers today. Over the years I have collected many Geode's while traveling. One in particular produced a pleasant surprise when after cutting it in half I discovered that it was filled with Amethyst, a violet colored quartz crystal. Traditionally the stone was worn to ward of drunkenness and protect from poison. Once believed to be a rare gemstone it was valued similarly to diamonds. It occurs naturally by exposing quartz crystals with iron impurities to radiation. This image was produced in daylight using a long exposure and a red laser to illuminate image.
